Ryan and Carolyn met though mutual friends one evening in their hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana. Bad electrons almost cut them short before they began – an email address Ryan finagled from one of those friends, Andrea, turned out to be defunct. But doubting Carolyn could resist his charms, Ryan persisted, and things were shortly sorted out. They blended their dog packs – his standard poodle and her two terriers – were engaged in July on the beach at Grand Isle, and started planning their intimate spring wedding. Lovers of Lafayette’s Festival Internationale de Louisiane, Carolyn and Ryan usually enjoyed a traditional jazz brunch on Festival Saturday before heading out to hear the music. For their wedding, in honor of their music-loving friends and to introduce the out-of-towners to the good life, they decided to have a morning wedding and throw their own festival brunch. Andrea and her husband Ken, who happen to run the historic Café Vermilionville restaurant, were invaluable in helping the very busy couple plan a gorgeous reception. They introduced the bride to their talented-hairdresser neighbor, Marcella; and their sax-playing waiter Eli provided music with his wonderfully agreeable jazz trio, Delta Papa. Organically, the event came together. In Lafayette, especially for this couple, friends blend talent and generosity – Andrea the bridesmaid, Stuart the best man, and all the rest. Their friends’ involvement made Carolyn and Ryan happiest of all – except for each others.
